Anne Hathaway turned down the lead role in romantic comedy ‘Knocked Up’ because she deemed the movie “too radical”, according to the film’s star Katherine Heigl.
The ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ beauty landed the role of Alison Scott opposite Seth Rogen after Hathaway, who was the original choice of director Judd Apatow, refused to take the part.
But Heigl was only too happy to be cast – and was even delighted when audiences were shocked by graphic footage of a baby’s head crowning during the movie’s birthing scene.
The 30-year-old says: “I think Anne found the film a little too radical especially with the shot at the end!
“Seeing a baby’s head poking through was a little strong but the reaction of the audience at that point was so extreme. They just screamed – especially the men!”

Anne Hathaway is a trooper. Despite a death in the family this weekend, she still showed up at a gay-rights gala on Saturday night.
The 25-year-old starlet was given the Human Rights Campaign’s Ally for Equality Award during its annual Los Angeles fete at the Hyatt Century Plaza hotel.
Hathaway (above, with CAA agent Bryan Lourd) said supporting the gay community hits close to home. It was “no big deal,” she said, when her older brother, Mike, told the family he was gay. Read the full article »
Actress Anne Hathaway isn’t your typical young Hollywood star that hops from club to club every night. Instead, the 25-year-old who had her big break in Disney’s “The Princess Diaries,” keeps a low profile and has her sights set on being a leading lady.
Hathaway, who has already been compared to leading lady Julia Roberts, will next be seen with Steve Carell in the secret agent flick “Get Smart.” The movie is set to be released June 20.
Hathaway has also been compared to actresses Judy Garland and Audrey Hepburn and claims Hepburn as her favorite actress.
Although Hathaway’s fame came as the klutzy-turned-royal Mia Thermopolis in “The Princess Diaries,” she has also taken on grown-up roles in dramas such as “Brokeback Mountain” and comedies like “The Devil Wears Prada.”
Following “Get Smart,” she will appear in the horror movie “Passengers” which will be released in September. Her future projects include a dark comedy called “Dancing With Shiva” and a wedding story with Kate Hudson called “Bride Wars.”

Actress Anne Hathaway was desperate to land a role in the big-screen remake of Get Smart – because she pretended to be in the TV show as a youngster.
The Devil Wears Prada star’s dream came true when she was cast as Agent 99 in the 2008 film adaptation of the 1970s series, after years of acting out the part during her childhood.
She says, “I was a huge fan of Get Smart when I was a kid.
“I used to stay up late to watch the reruns and then spend the next day pretending to be Agent 99.”

WHAT’S NEXT She’s teaming up with Steve Carell for the secret agent satire Get Smart (June 20) and then switching genres with the horror flick Passengers (Sept. 5). Future projects include the dark comedy Dancing With Shiva and the wedding romp Bride Wars, alongside Kate Hudson.

Anne Hathaway, who will star in Warner Bros.’ summer comedy “Get Smart,” will be honored as female star of the year at ShoWest 2008.
Hathaway, who launched her film career with 2001′s “The Princess Diaries,” will be feted March 13 at an awards gala set to close ShoWest. The exhibition confab opens March 10 at the Bally’s and Paris hotels in Las Vegas.
“Since making her big-screen debut, (Hathaway) has gone on to engage audiences of all ages with a broad range of roles, which is quite a testament to this extremely talented young actress,” ShoWest co-managing director Mitch Neuhauser said. “From her roles as a naive young assistant in ‘The Devil Wears Prada,’ a feisty cowgirl in ‘Brokeback Mountain,’ a Jane Austen heroine in ‘Becoming Jane’ and a reluctant princess in ‘The Princess Diaries’ and ‘The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement,’ Hathaway has proven to audiences that she can carry any role that comes her way.”
Hathaway stars opposite Steve Carell in “Get Smart,” set to open June 20.
She also recently completed production on the drama “Passengers,” co-starring Patrick Wilson and directed by Rodrigo Garcia, and the Jonathan Demme comedy “Dancing With Shiva,” co-starring Debra Winger.

ShoWest is produced by the Nielsen Film Group, a unit of Nielsen Business Media, parent company of The Hollywood Reporter.

Homer Simpson said it best: “I wanted Mary Ann on Gilligan’s Island ugly, not Cornelius on The Planet of the Apes ugly. TV ugly, not… ugly ugly.”
In real life, “ugly” girls are social lepers with affinity for listening to emo bands while cutting themselves. In movies, the “ugly” girls always look like they’re two seconds away from ripping off their oversized glasses and starring in a Noxema commercial.
Take, for example, 27 Dresses, starring the gorgeous Katherine Heigl as Jane, an administrative assistant who’s used to men ignoring her in favour of her hot sister. But it’ll take more than a bad brunette dye job to convince us this Jane is plain. In honour of Hollywood’s obsession with pretty/ugly girls, we’re counting down the Top 10 “homely” hotties in film.
#8 Anne Hathaway, Princess Diaries — Before: Mia, an awkward, gangly teen, discovers she is heir to the throne of a small European nation and struggles to transform into a polished, elegant lady worthy of the princess title in this Cinderella story.
After: The royal stylist manages to tame Mia’s bird’s next of frizzy curls, trim her unibrow, ditch her glasses and turn her into a beauty fit for a queen.
Was She Hot or Not?Not. Anne Hathaway is undeniably gorgeous, but she makes a surprisingly convincing ugly duckling as pre-makeover Mia.
